:D Obama is destroying himself. Came out supporting the mosque at ground zero. That will surely help him with the Jews and the electorate in the great state of New York. Keep it up Hussein, you will help the democrats snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Wonder why Conservatives hate the Constitution. They want to change it all the time, and they never want others to be able to use it. Especially here, where the issue is political fraud cooked up by Fox and talk radio.

At the Washington Post’s On Faith, James Standish, who represents the Seventh-day Adventist Church at the United Nations, writes about “the great Ground Zero mosque hoax.” A sample:
1) There is no “Ground Zero” mosque
If you take a minute to Google map the address of the supposed “ground zero” mosque, 45-47 Park Place, you’ll find the proposed site is on a small city street buried in the middle of the block. It is separated by two full city blocks of towering buildings from the World Trade Center site. While the entire lower Manhattan might be considered “Ground Zero”, the site of the mosque is separated visually and physically from the World Trade Center site. No one visiting the World Trade Center site will see it - unless they take a wrong turn on the way.
2) There is no “Victory” Mosque
The stated goal behind building the Muslim center in lower Manhattan is to recapture the spirit of mutual respect between Judaism, Christianity and Islam that existed in Cordoba, Spain, from 700 - 1200 AD. While Europe was trapped in the Dark Ages, marked by bloody religious repression, Cordoba thrived as a commercial and cultural center with what was, for the time, a high level of religious freedom. For example, in the 10th Century, Cordoba became the intellectual capital for Jews worldwide. The stated point of the project is creating a world where Jews, Christians and Muslims connect again in a way that builds mutual understanding and respect. This is precisely the opposite goal of the 9/11 terrorists.

I was wondering, by the way, which Republican candidate you think could beat President Obama, Jeb Bush? I'd like to get you point of view on that.

There is, IMHO, no more peaceful and gentle batch of humans on the planet than that Order of Muslim Sufis. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sufism (Sufism in general.) Those who might be interested in getting a different view of Islam may wish to read Hixon's books. I suggest starting with "Heart of the Koran." Then read "101 Diamonds." If Islam is not to your taste, no worries. Hixon also wrote quite gracefully (and from his personal experience) about related topics in Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism. http://ssaconnect.com/content/view/101/162/ (book list).
Such easy and light investigation would be especially helpful for those who see Islam as a solidified whole, rather than the fluid spiritual experiences of 1.57 billion individuals struggling to move in the direction of goodness on the Path.

8) I can't believe how brilliant this Hussein Obama is. What a master political stroke to come out for the Mosque at ground zero. Not to mention how he wrote off all the gulf coast folks who were hurting with the oil spill, then lent them a helping hand by placing a moriitorium on drilliing. What a guy.
While I am certainly no expert in 1st Amendment law, I don't see this as much of a free exercise issue. Municipalities have been able to control where religious centers are built through zoning and other court approved means for years. I don't see this changing any time soon. That being said, David raises a good point. This proposed center is not being built at Ground Zero. Despite this, it will likely continue to be a hot button topic for many people and will probably not help the Presiden't approval rating.

Frankly, I don't see any political hazard whatsoever in President Obama's stand. He's clearly correct, legally and morally. The people who will disagree with him--Beck, Gingrich, Palin--and their acolytes wouldn't dream of voting for a Democrat in any case. So this is a call to rightness and the base. When you can do both those things at once, smart politicians go for it.
The overall fallacy is that 9/11 was a Muslim-American attack. It was not.

Lemon: Don't you think it's a bit different considering what happened on 9/11? And the people have said there's a need for it in Lower Manhattan, so that's why it's being built there. What about 10, 20 blocks . . . Midtown Manhattan, considering the circumstances behind this? That's not understandable?
Patel: In America, we don't tell people based on their race or religion or ethnicity that they are free in this place, but not in that place --
Lemon: [interrupting] I understand that, but there's always context, Mr. Patel . . . this is an extraordinary circumstance. You understand that this is very heated. Many people lost their loved ones on 9/11 --
Patel: Including Muslim Americans who lost their loved ones. . . .
Lemon: Consider the context here. That's what I'm talking about.
Patel: I have to tell you that this seems a little like telling black people 50 years ago: you can sit anywhere on the bus you like - just not in the front.
Lemon: I think that's apples and oranges - I don't think that black people were behind a Terrorist plot to kill people and drive planes into a building. That's a completely different circumstance.
Patel: And American Muslims were not behind the terrorist plot either.
This was by far the most clever (and honest) bit that I have seen on the Daily Show. It's worth your time to follow the links and watch the video.

Jon Stewart continued his coverage of the 'Ground Zero Mosque' debate last night, focusing on Fox News' incongruities harder than he ever has. In a segment called "The Parent Company Trap," Stewart shared with his viewers how Fox News' plan to "follow the money" from mosque builder Imam Rauf to terrorists will be a tricky one because it leads right back to Fox News.
Why can't the people who oppose this Muslim community center (not even strictly a mosque) because it's "too close" to Ground Zero give a straight answer on what an acceptable distance should be? What does this even have to do with the September 11 attacks? I fail to see a compelling reason why it shouldn't be built, but instead, a lot of emotional bigotry.
Since I fall into the category of people that think it should be ok to build a mosque or any other thing the property owner wants (within zoning laws), I can only guess. While there are probably more than a few that just hate Muslims, I would guess that for some, it is just pure emotion. It bothers them on some level. I read somewhere about the attempts of an order of nuns to build near one of the concentration camp sites. There was outrage and the Pope finally had to tell the group to build elsewhere. I know this isn't the same situation, but an unfortunate number of poeple make a whole host of decisions on an emotional level.
